Amelia A. Kolbe
Aged 25 in the Conduit Street household at the 1841 census, and the youngest of the three women there. AND SHE MARRIED: Amelia Ann Kolbe, at ST PANCRAS in 1854, indexed twice. The groom is not in the index this archive read and she is the only one of the three sisters who can currently be followed out of the house. FROM THE CENSUS AND THE MARRIAGE INDEX. 11 OCTOBER 2026 — AND A «MISS A. KOLBE» IS GIVING MONEY TO HER BROTHER'S MISSIONARY SOCIETY, FIVE MINUTES' WALK FROM HOME. The Evangelical Magazine and Missionary Chronicle for 1836 prints the subscription lists of the ORANGE STREET CHAPEL AUXILIARY of the London Missionary Society, and the Juvenile Branch carries “Miss A. Kolbe”, with a plain “Miss Kolbe” in a collector's list on the same page. ORANGE STREET CHAPEL IS OFF LEICESTER SQUARE, IN WESTMINSTER — the parish this family was baptised in, and a few minutes from Conduit Street, where she was living five years later. THE SOCIETY IS THE ONE HER BROTHER SERVED: George Augustus Kolbe was the LMS missionary at Philippolis in 1836, the year of these lists. WHAT MAKES IT ATTRACTIVE IS THE WHOLE OF THE EVIDENCE: a surname, an initial, a parish and a society. No address, no age, no relationship is printed, and “Kolbe” in London is not unique — this archive has already had to keep four men of one name apart in South Africa. Nothing is claimed and no record is altered. WHAT WOULD SETTLE IT is the auxiliary's own papers rather than the printed total: the Orange Street Chapel records, or the LMS auxiliary returns in the Council for World Mission archive — which is the same collection row 135 is already writing to. AND IF IT IS HER, IT SAYS SOMETHING THIS ARCHIVE HAS WANTED AND NOT HAD: that the family in London knew what the son at the Cape was doing, and paid towards it.

No family is drawn here, because none is recorded. This archive holds Amelia A. Kolbe as a name on a document — a witness at a font, a signature on a form, a person named in someone else's list — and has no record of who their parents, spouse or children were. That is a statement about the sources, not about the person. Every record naming them →

A dossier is every mention of a person anywhere in this archive, gathered automatically after the site is built and linked back to the page it appears on. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual — where two people share a name they share this page, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Nothing on a dossier page is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.
