Married at MOSSELBAAI on 5 September 1905, certificate 1318 — he 30 and a jonkman of PRETORIA, she SIXTEEN with her parents consenting. ELEVEN children are named on his 1940 estate, which she signed and on which she could not name his parents; two of them carry her own parents' names entire. TWELVE are cut on their gravestone at Silverton, by their household names — and matching the two lists leaves one over, a child called only BABA who was dead before the estate was written. Married 3 April 1843; he died on the same date twenty-five years later, leaving her with twelve children — eight sons and four daughters, which is his obituary's own count. NONE OF THE TWELVE WAS NAMED IN A DOCUMENT HERE UNTIL 27 SEPTEMBER 2026, when the Free State and Cape Dutch Reformed baptism registers were searched on HER name rather than on his. ELEVEN OF THE TWELVE ARE BELOW, and ten of them are named as this couple's by a baptism register or a civil death registration — not by a tree. THE TENTH CAME LAST AND IS THE FIRST IN ORDER: CATHARINA WILHELMINA, born 1844 in the Cape Colony, whose own 1909 death registration names this father and this mother and states that she had been married to a PIENAAR before the ANDERSON she died as — which is what turned a probable sixth child into the documented eldest. They are drawn in birth order, which is also the order the fonts move: Colesberg in 1846, Fauresmith in 1848 and 1849, then Bloemfontein from 1860, so the register records this household's move to the town without anybody writing it down. ONE IS STILL MISSING and the obituary is the authority for there being twelve. BOTH OF THE LAST TWO CAME OUT OF THE FREE STATE CIVIL DEATH REGISTERS ON ONE AFTERNOON, found by searching that index for their FATHER rather than for themselves — which is how a daughter filed under a married surname this archive had never heard of, and a son whose forenames run two of his brothers' together, were both reached. What Was Searched Frederik Fortunatus is here on a user tree's word and nothing else. His death registration names no parents — that line of the form is completed only for a deceased under ten — and the register of his baptism has not been found. He is drawn in because two of his children were baptised to a McCabe mother in the same congregation, which is corroboration and not proof.

Residence STORMBERG SPRUIT; after banns; by Thomas Reid. THE CONSENT COLUMN NAMES HER MOTHER AND NOBODY OF HIS: «de Weduwe Kolbe, moeder», where the entries above and below each name two fathers. Married 1805 at Graaff-Reinet. NO LONGER TREE-SOURCED: a Dutch Reformed baptism of 4 January 1807 names her as the mother of DAVID SCHALK BOOIJZEN, born 12 December 1806, who is first of the eight on the 1876 Sterfkennis. She died before March 1825 and he died a widower in 1876, so at least one later marriage is missing from this row — and the 1908 notice supplies it. The 1876 Sterfkennis The 1876 notice lists eight children and names no mother for any of them. The Wakkerstroom household, and it was written out in this archive's prose for weeks before any file would draw it. Married about 1885, she seventeen; their eldest was born at Wakkerstroom in 1886. THREE DOCUMENTS NAME THE COUPLE AND NONE OF THEM IS A TREE: Maria Johanna's 1953 estate file gives FATHER George Augustus Kolbe, MOTHER Martha Sophia Klopper; Daniel's death registration carries the words “G A KOLBE'S SON”; and from 9 October 2026 Frederik Fortunatus Downing's own death notice, TAB MHG 40293, names both parents outright. THE MOTHER'S NAME IS WHAT MAKES THIS SAFE. Two men called George Augustus Kolbe are buried in one cemetery at Wakkerstroom, born two years apart, and this archive has already had to withdraw a claim within the hour over exactly that. The other man's wife was Susanna Margaretha; only this one married a Klopper, and all three documents say Klopper. What Was Searched Three children, not the whole family. These are the three the archive holds documents for. The old man died in 1954 aged 91 having outlived at least two of his sons by thirty-six years, and nothing here claims the household was this size.

Entered on the family tree as the father. This archive does not accept the profile: it holds a Yorkshire farmer buried at Bilsdale on 3 January 1853 and a man who died at de Bruins Poort in the Cape five days later. Margaret's father ON THE TREE AND IN NO DOCUMENT. Carried as «doc» — a record read — until 13 October 2026, when the person was regraded to testimony and this relationship was left behind: her 1868 death notice enters her parents as «Both dead» and names neither, and the 1819 marriage allegation gives her no father. FamilySearch cannot hold him steady either, 1769–1839 in one tree and 1765–1839 in another. The matching mother, Mary P King, was never given a record here at all.

His second marriage: entry 13 at ZEERUST in the district of Marico, 14 April 1892. He was 63 and a widower of Brakfontein, Rustenburg; she was 51 and a widow of Driefontein, Marico, and both were born at Graaff-Reinet. They made mutual wills, and she died before him. The 1892 marriage register NO CHILDREN BY HIM. This archive drew his four children here for a month because it could name this marriage and not the other. She was fifty-one at the wedding; and her own 1902 death notice lists SIX children — two van Stadens and four Rooses — and not one Booysen.

A household here is a claim with a source. Where one rests on the family tree rather than a record read here, the chip says so; where a child was placed by something other than the household's own document, that child says so too.
