Anna Maria van der Merwe

WikiTree makes her a daughter of DAVID SCHALK VAN DER MERWE and ANNA ELIZABETH LOUW—which, if right, is where the forename DAVID SCHALK entered this family: her eldest son carries her father’s names entire.FROM WIKITREE, NOT FROM A DOCUMENT THIS ARCHIVE HAS READ, and it is checkable against the van der Merwe baptism registers rather than the tree. 15 SEPTEMBER 2026 — DE VILLIERS HAS HER, AND HE DISAGREES WITH THE TREE. Volume 2 of the Geslacht-register der oude Kaapsche familien, in the van der Merwe genealogy: “(e) 3 WILLEM, gedoopt 30 September 1764, burger te Stellenbosch, gehuwd 7 November 1784 met HESTER MARIA VAN DER MERWE — (f) 1 Johanna Catharina, gedoopt 8 Maart 1787; 2 ANNA MARIA, GEDOOPT 5 OCTOBER 1788, GEHUWD MET PETRUS JACOBUS BOOIJSEN; 3 DAVID SCHALK, GEDOOPT 10 OCTOBER 1790; 4 Hendrina Magdalena, 1792; 5 Hester Maria, 1793; 6 Hendrik Petrus Jacobus, 1796.” SO THE TREE MAKES DAVID SCHALK HER FATHER AND THE BOOK MAKES HIM HER BROTHER, and the two parentages cannot both be right. BUT THE CONCLUSION SURVIVES EITHER READING: on both accounts the name stands one step from her. A BAPTISM DATE AT LAST, AND IT IS FOURTEEN DAYS AFTER HIS — he on 21 September 1788, she on 5 October. His wife, married 1805 at Graaff-Reinet — and DOCUMENTED, which she was not until today. A Dutch Reformed baptism of 4 JANUARY 1807 names her as the mother of DAVID SCHALK BOOIJZEN, born 12 December 1806, who is FIRST of the eight children on the 1876 Sterfkennis. That resolves a contradiction this archive marked Serious (they were married by 1806, so the 1825 Cape Town marriage record is a different couple) and it rewrites the wall on the ancestor chart, which said only a family tree put her there. WHAT IS STILL NOT PROVED is that she is the mother of the 1812 man in the direct line.

The 1876 notice lists eight children and names no mother for any of them. They are drawn under this marriage because it is the only one recorded — not because the document says so.

A dossier is every mention of a person anywhere in this archive, gathered automatically after the site is built and linked back to the page it appears on. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual — where two people share a name they share this page, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Nothing on a dossier page is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.
