George Augustus Kolbe of Burgersdorp
THE SECOND GEORGE AUGUSTUS KOLBE OF WAKKERSTROOM, and the reason this archive had to withdraw a claim within the hour. His stone: “IN LIEFVOLLE HERINNERING AAN ONS OUERS — GEORGE AUGUSTUS KOLBE — GEB. 2 OKTOBER 1861 — OORL. 8 NOVEMBER 1934 — EN SUSANNA MARGARETHA KOLBE — GEB. 26 OKTOBER 1861 — OORL. 28 JULIE 1940 — HULLE RUS.” BORN AT BURGERSDORP, which is where the 1820 Settler is buried and where the Settler's twin son George Augustus was born in 1836; the descent is not documented here and is not claimed. He is buried at WAKKERSTROOM although he died at Standerton, in the same cemetery as the other man of his name, TWO YEARS APART IN BIRTH AND TWENTY IN DEATH. AND THE BIRTH DATE DECIDES THE PRISONER: the 1902 POW record of WO 108/368 gives a George Augustus Kolbe of Wakkerstroom AGED 40, and a man born 2 October 1861 was forty from October 1901 to October 1902, where the other was thirty-nine all year. THE PRISONER IS THIS MAN. 17 SEPTEMBER 2026 — AND NOW HE HAS PARENTS. The last 214 images of the Burgersdorp baptism register, film 008039088, hold his font: BORN 2 OCTOBER 1861, BAPTISED 12 JANUARY 1862 AT BURGERSDORP, FATHER G. A. KOLBE, MOTHER ANNA MARIA VILJOEN — FamilySearch 1:1:6FWF-YVJT, image 685. The stone gave a date and a town and this archive wrote that the descent was not documented; THE REGISTER GIVES HIM A COUPLE. He has two younger siblings in the same book. WHETHER HIS FATHER IS THE SETTLER’S TWIN SON — the G.A. Kolbe born 23 February 1836, who would have been twenty-five — IS THE NEXT STEP AND IS NOT TAKEN HERE. 16 SEPTEMBER 2026 — THE POW ENTRY NOW HAS A FOLIO: TNA WO 108/368 FOLIO 709, the War Office list of Boer prisoners of war numbers 1–32,561, which records him as a TRANSVAALER, residence WAKKERSTROOM, and held in NATAL. He is one of SIX KOLBE MEN in that list, and the only one of the six not in the southern Free State.

No family is drawn here, because none is recorded. This archive holds George Augustus Kolbe of Burgersdorp as a name on a document — a witness at a font, a signature on a form, a person named in someone else's list — and has no record of who their parents, spouse or children were. That is a statement about the sources, not about the person. Every record naming them →

A dossier is every mention of a person anywhere in this archive, gathered automatically after the site is built and linked back to the page it appears on. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual — where two people share a name they share this page, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Nothing on a dossier page is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.
