- 9 Sep 2026 — MOUNTJOY returned 42 documents, all read
All twenty-two dated 1930 or later were read. The twenty before 1930 were not, and they held James Mountjoy's wills of 1818 and 1827 and an 1834 Colonial Office memorial. A filter applied for convenience was written up as the whole search. Where it stands → - 17 Sep 2026 — WO 12/1430 is the muster book to read for James Mountjoy
It is the 20TH AND 21ST DRAGOONS FOR 1867–1868 — fifty years after he was discharged, and the re-raised regiment rather than the one that garrisoned the Cape. The 21st Light Dragoons has a continuous WO 12 run of its own and the piece that covers his discharge is WO 12/1450, 1816–1817. THE WRONG REFERENCE HAD BEEN WRITTEN INTO A LETTER TO KEW; the letter was still unsent and now names the right piece and says an earlier version had it wrong. Where it stands →

Wilhelmina Ernestina Mountjoy
…If this woman were an eleventh child, her own son would have had the same claim by representation, and THERE IS NO BRUMMER IN THAT ACCOUNT. The innocent explanation is that the boy died before 1938 without issue, which for a child born by 1898 is ordinary. The other explanation is that the father on this notice is a different John James Mountjoy. A SECOND ARITHMETIC TO WATCH: Maria Louisa Bertha Kumm’s age at death puts her birth at about October 1860, which would make her SEVENTEEN when this daughter was born. Possible, and tight. WHAT WOULD SETTLE IT: the Dordrecht baptism register for 1878, or her own marriage record. Until one of them is read she is a person here and not a daughter of that house.…

The death notice → Four corrections it offers our own tree: Anna Catharina is recorded there as Slier , not Schleher; her marriage to James Mountjoy is dated 9 March 1817 at Graaff-Reinet ; Thomas Jacobus lived to 1827 , not 1818; and there is a sibling our tree lacks entirely — Jacoba Catharina Mountjoy (1820–1842) . Johanna Margaritha Pretorius — the woman four documents refused to name She was the hardest person in this archive to find, and the reason is worth as much as the answer. Petrus Jacobus Booysen's first wife died in 1863 .…

A dossier is every mention of a person anywhere in this archive, gathered automatically after the site is built and linked back to the page it appears on. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual — where two people share a name they share this page, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Nothing on a dossier page is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.
