Johanna Booyzen

NOT THIS FAMILY, and recorded here on purpose. Death notice 6167 — the oldest Booyzen estate paper in the Cape Master's series, and a generation older in form than anything else this archive has read. Widow of Charles du Plessis; one daughter, married to Benjamin Solomon; “no property whatever except a Bond amounting per balance to £15”. Line 3 answers “both dead”. She is here because she was born in 1754 and died in 1843 — the only two dates this archive has for Magdelena Elisabeth de Beer, both off the family tree with no source stated — and because somebody will one day find her and decide she is the same woman. She is not. Her name is not Magdelena, not Elisabeth, and not de Beer.

No family is drawn here, because none is recorded. This archive holds Johanna Booyzen as a name on a document — a witness at a font, a signature on a form, a person named in someone else's list — and has no record of who their parents, spouse or children were. That is a statement about the sources, not about the person. Every record naming them →

  • 14 Sep 2026 — The Wonderboom deeds register showed a transfer from M. J. Booyzen, widow, to David Schalk Booyzen on 9 April 1907
The transferor is right and the date is not. Her gravestone at Rebecca Street, Pretoria, reads “MAGDALENA JOHANNA BOOYZEN (GEB. BEZUIDENHOUT), GEB. 8 MEI 1870, OORL. 29 JAN 1955” — so the ledger's “8/5/1870” beside her name is HER BIRTH DATE, which identifies her beyond doubt. But her husband PETRUS JACOBUS BOOYZEN died on 25 MARCH 1947, so she was not a widow in 1907 and cannot have transferred anything as one that year. The 9 April 1907 read off that row belongs to a different row: the ledger's columns were mis-aligned in the reading. What survives is the identification; what is withdrawn is the date, and with it the suggestion that David Schalk Booysen could be carried to 1907. Where it stands →

A dossier is every mention of a person anywhere in this archive, gathered automatically after the site is built and linked back to the page it appears on. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual — where two people share a name they share this page, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Nothing on a dossier page is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.
