Peter Benjamin Kolbe

27 SEPTEMBER 2026 — STILL IN NO DOCUMENT, AND NOW THAT IS A TESTED STATEMENT RATHER THAN AN ABSENCE OF TRYING. The Cape Dutch Reformed registers were searched for Peter, Benjamin and Rector together: five records in the entire collection, and every one of them somebody else — two Petrus Jacobuses, a Pieter Joubert Kolbe, and the two fatherless entries this family already has. NO COLESBERG BAPTISM FOR 1840. THE NIL IS CONTROLLED BUT IT IS NOT STRONG, and the reason is visible in the same result set: this collection indexes his own brother's 1838 baptism with the father as the bare word “Kolbe” and no forename, and his eldest sister's the same way. AN INDEX THAT LOSES THE FATHER'S NAME CAN LOSE A CHILD'S, so this is evidence that he is not in the index and weaker evidence that he was never at the font. THE MAN WHO MAY EXPLAIN THE RECTOR, AND WHO IS IN NO DOCUMENT. This archive has carried him as “KEETOR Peter Benjamin”, born 1840 at Colesberg, from the family list. KEETOR IS NOT A NAME. The 2012 Barry report gives the same person as PETER RECTOR KOLBE, and Rector is — so on the ordinary reading, “Keetor” is “Rector” misread out of a hand, and the compiled report is the better witness to the form of the name even though it is the weaker source overall. THAT MATTERS BECAUSE OF A CHILD BORN FORTY-TWO YEARS LATER. This archive holds ANTON RECTOR KOLBE BARRY, born 3 November 1882 and baptised at Burgersdorp in 1883, and has never been able to say where his Rector came from. A great-uncle of the name would say it, and namesake reasoning is how the Fortunatus name was traced across three families. BUT THE SAME REPORT SPLITS HIM IN TWO, listing PETER RECTOR and BENJAMIN as separate children where the family list has one man carrying all three forenames — so the report inflates its own count, and this is one of the places it does it. AND THE DOCUMENTS DO NOT HELP HIM. The Settler’s 1845 notice names ten children and he is not among them; Margaret Downing’s 1867 notice names the survivors and he is not there either. A boy born in 1840 would have been four when his father died and a minor children’s name is exactly what a death notice records. SO HE DIED BEFORE 1845, OR HE DOES NOT BELONG TO THIS FAMILY, and the archive has not been able to tell which since it first raised it. NOTHING HERE IS ADOPTED: two compiled sources agreeing about a forename are still two compiled sources. A Colesberg baptism for 1840 would settle him, and it has not been read.

…The official record at the end of his life calls him simply an agriculturist , and he died on his own farm. Those are not contradictions — they are a life in sequence — but the archive should stop leading with "missionary". Ten children, and one who is missing The notice names ten. Keetor Peter Benjamin Kolbe , whom the tree gives a birth in 1840, is not among them — nor among the ten in his mother's 1867 notice. He died young, or he does not belong in this family. Julia Kolbe , whom MyHeritage flags as born two years after her father's death, is likewise absent, as she must be. 21 September 2026 — and “Keetor” is not a name.…

…He died young, or he does not belong in this family. Julia Kolbe , whom MyHeritage flags as born two years after her father's death, is likewise absent, as she must be. 21 September 2026 — and “Keetor” is not a name. A compiled register report of 2012 gives the same man as Peter Rector Kolbe , which is a name, so the tree has been carrying a misreading. It matters because this archive holds Anton Rector Kolbe Barry (1882) and has never been able to say where his Rector came from. A great-uncle of the name would say it. Nothing is adopted — he is still in no document, and the same report splits him into two children, which is how it inflates its count.…

A dossier is every mention of a person anywhere in this archive, gathered automatically after the site is built and linked back to the page it appears on. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual — where two people share a name they share this page, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Nothing on a dossier page is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.
